This video demonstrates the cosmetic plastic surgery for the upper arm redundant skin. The plastic surgery is called an arm lift.
The body lift types of cosmetic plastic surgery operations are not for the faint hearted. They are extensive plastic surgery operations leaving the patient with a circumferential trunk scar. Despite this body lift scar, patients flock to the Virginia plastic surgeon, Dr. Michael J. Brown for this surgery if they are candidates for it. Body lift surgery results can be very, very dramatic, and the scar is hidden in the underwear area. These cosmetic surgery patients are so happy with the improvement that they do not mind the scar at all. Candidates for body lift operations have considered less extensive surgeries, or tried other alternatives and have not been able to achieve the results they are seeking. After full explanations of what is involved in the plastic surgery, they are eager patients. Drainage tubes are left in place and are removed ten to twenty days after body lift surgery. This cosmetic surgery operation typically has a long recovery period, because of the extent of the internal sewing done by the plastic surgeon. It is often recommended to perform this plastic surgery as a two stage surgery. The first surgery involves the tummy tuck or abdominoplasty plastic surgery and then 3 months later the back plastic surgery is performed. This is a safer and optimal way to achieve the best plastic surgery result and minimize the risk of the surgery with no required overnight hospitalization and no risk of blood transfusions. Performing the complete circumferential surgery at one time is possible but does carry more risk. The only advantage of the performing the entire lift at one time is one recovery. This recovery will be longer and actually amount to the same number of days off of work as seperating the plastic surgery into two steps. For those that want to accept the greater risk for one recovery, Dr. Michael J. Brown, MD will consider this provided the patient is a good healthy candidate.

CIRCUMFERENTIAL BODY LIFT PLASTIC SURGERY
Introduction to body lift plastic surgery
Circumferential body lift in the Ashburn, Virginia area is a plastic surgery procedure to remove excess skin and fatty tissue from the middle and lower abdomen and to tighten muscles of the abdominal wall. Circumferential body lift is not a plastic surgery treatment for being overweight. Obese individuals who intend to lose weight should postpone all forms of body contouring cosmetic surgery until they have been able to undergo their massive weight loss and have a stable weight for at least six months. They may still visit with a plastic surgeon to learn more about the bodylift cosmetic surgery.
There are a variety of different plastic surgery techniques used by plastic surgeon, Dr. Michael J. Brown for circumferential body lift surgery. Circumferential body lift surgery can be combined with other forms of body-contouring surgery including liposuction surgery or performed at the same time with other elective cosmetic surgery procedures.
Alternative treatments to body lift plastic surgery
Alternative forms of management other than cosmetic surgery consist of not treating the areas of loose skin and fatty deposits.
Liposuction plastic surgery may be a cosmetic surgery alternative to circumferential body lift surgery if there is good skin tone and localized abdominal fatty deposits in an individual of normal weight. Diet and exercise programs may be of benefit in the overall reduction of excess body fat.
Risks of body lift plastic surgery
Every surgery procedure involves a certain amount of risk and it is important that you understand the surgery risks involved with circumferential body lift plastic surgery. An individual´s choice to undergo a cosmetic plastic surgery procedure is based on the comparison of the surgery risk to potential cosmetic benefit. Although the majority of plastic surgery patients do not experience the following surgery complications, you should discuss each of them with your plastic surgeon, Dr. Michael J. Brown, to make sure you understand all possible consequences of circumferential body lift plastic surgery.
Bleeding - It is possible, though unusual, to experience a bleeding episode during or after cosmetic plastic surgery. Should post-operative bleeding occur, it may be best to undergo emergency surgery treatment by the plastic surgeon to drain accumulated blood. It is best to not take any aspirin or anti-inflammatory medications for ten days before plastic or cosmetic surgery, as this may increase the risk of bleeding during and after plastic surgery.
Infection- Infection is unusual after this type of cosmetic plastic surgery. Should an infection occur, treatment including antibiotics or additional plastic surgery by the plastic surgeon may be necessary.
Change in skin sensation- Diminished (or loss of) skin sensation in the lower abdominal area may not totally resolve after circumferential body lift plastic surgery.
Skin contour irregularities- Contour irregularities and depressions may occur after circumferential body lift plastic surgery. Visible and palpable wrinkling of skin can occur after cosmetic plastic surgery of this type.
Skin scarring- Excessive scarring is uncommon. In rare cases, abnormal surgery scars may result. These surgery scars may be unattractive and of different color than surrounding skin. Additional treatments including more plastic surgery may be necessary to treat abnormal scarring. It is best the follow the plastic surgeon advice for after plastic surgery care.
Surgical anesthesia- Both local and general anesthesia involve risk. There is the possibility of complications, injury, and even death from all forms of cosmetic or plastic surgery anesthesia or sedation.
Asymmetry- Symmetrical body appearance may not result from circumferential body lift surgery. Factors such as skin tone, fatty deposits, bony prominence, and muscle tone may contribute to normal asymmetry in body features. It is common for the plastic surgery scar to be asymmetric.
Delayed healing- Wound disruption or delayed wound healing is possible after surgery. This is especially true of massive weight loss patients who have had gastric bypass or other weight loss surgery technique. Some areas of the abdomen may not heal normally and may take a long time to heal. Some areas of skin may die. This may require frequent dressing changes or further plastic surgery to remove the non-healed tissue.
Smokers have a greater risk of skin loss and wound healing complications with cosmetic plastic surgery. It is best to stop smoking a few weeks before surgery.
Allergic reactions- In rare cases, local allergies to tape, suture material, or topical preparations have been reported. Systemic reactions which are more serious may occur to drugs used during surgery and prescription medicines. Allergic reactions may require additional treatment.
Pulmonary complications- Pulmonary complications may occur secondarily to both blood clots (pulmonary emboli) or partial collapse of the lungs after general anesthesia. Should either of these complications occur, you may require hospitalization and additional treatment. Pulmonary emboli can be life-threatening or fatal in some circumstances after surgery. This is probably the greatest area of risk with circumferential body lift plastic surgery or thigh lift plastic surgery procedures.
Seroma- Fluid accumulations infrequently occur in between the skin and the abdominal wall after cosmetic plastic surgery. Should this problem occur, it may require additional procedures for drainage of fluid. This probably the most common complication seen after body lift plastic surgery.
Umbilicus- Malposition, scarring, unacceptable appearance or loss of the umbilicus (navel) may occur after tummy tuck or body lift plastic surgery.
Long term effects- Subsequent alterations in body contour may occur as the result of aging, weight loss or gain, pregnancy, or other circumstances not related to circumferential body lift surgery.
Pain- Chronic pain may occur very infrequently from nerves becoming trapped in scar tissue after tummy tuck or circumferential body lift plastic surgery.
Other- You may be disappointed with the results of cosmetic surgery. Infrequently, it is necessary to perform additional cosmetic surgery to improve your results.
Additional cosmetic surgery necessary
Should complications occur, additional plastic surgery or other treatments may be necessary. Even though risks and complications occur infrequently, the risks cited are particularly associated with circumferential body lift plastic surgery. Other complications and risks can occur but are even more uncommon. The practice of medicine and surgery is not an exact science. Although good results are expected, there is no guarantee or warranty expressed or implied, on the results that may be obtained.
Health insurance and body lift plastic surgery
Most health insurance companies exclude coverage for cosmetic plastic surgery operations such as circumferential body lift surgery or any complications that might occur from plastic surgery. Please carefully review your health insurance subscriber-information pamphlet.
When considering a surgery procedure, such as a bodylift or tummy tuck, it is important to be aware of non surgery alternatives. For tummy tucks, the alternative is to not treat the areas of loose skin and fatty deposits. Liposuction surgery may be an alternative to tummy tuck if there is good skin tone and localized abdominal fatty deposits in an individual of normal weight. Dr. Michael J. Brown has lasers that have used to tighten modest amounts of loose skin on the lower abdomen and around the belly button. Diet and exercise programs may be of benefit in the overall reduction of excess body fat. Lasers will not work for body lifts.
