Titan, the Laser Facelift in Loudoun
Cosmetic Plastic Surgery and Rejuvenating Skin Care for Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, & Washington DC
Titan utilizes a safe, infrared spectrum of light that this delivered to the dermis well below the outer skin's surface. There is no down time and no external injury to the skin. There is no external wounds to care for. A person can return to work right after the cosmetic procedure.
Dr. Michael J.Brown was the first cosmetic plastic surgeon in this Northern Virginia, Maryland, Washington DC metroplex to realize the benefits of the Titan's patented technology for his patients. He sees many cosmetic patients that are not nessarily 'ready' for cosmetic surgery or do not want to have an 'invasive cosmetic surgery'. Some people want to delay any cosmetic surgical intervention for 'as long as possible'. The Titan offers an excellent option for all of these types of people.

How does the Titan Laser work?
The Titan laser works by having the laser's light react with the water that is within the deeper layers of the skin (dermis). The energy released between the light and the water causes the water within the dermis to heat up. The elevation of the skin's temperature is only to a certain temperature that is favorable for collagen contraction. This light generated heat causes immediate collagen contraction within the dermis of the skin. During the procedure, the skin's outermost surface (epidermis) is protected through continuous cooling with the Titan handpiece. So Titan works on the deeper layers while leaving the more superficial layers of the skin alone. The results of the procedure are not complete immediately after the procedure because over time, new collagen growth results in further tightening and the development of a more youthful complexion with fewer lines, folds and looseness of the skin.
The Titan Laser Difference
Titan employs light energy because it provides a more uniform distribution of energy for heating the deep dermis than other energy sources, such as RF (radio frequency). What areas respond best to the Titan Laser procedure?
Patients have been successfully treated on many areas on the body where skin is lax. Loose skin on the abdomen, back of the upper arm, along the jaw line and under the chin have responded particularly well to the procedure. The face is the most commonly treated cosmetic area, especially for improvement of the jaw line and neck laxity. There is a limit to how much the Titan will correct. Severly aged skin with photodamage and extreme wrinkling, would not be considered candidates for the Titan laser procedure.
Who can be treated with the Titan Laser procedure in Virginia, Maryland and Washington, DC?
Since the Titan cosmetic procedure is heating tissue under the skin's surface, patients of any skin type can be treated. Men and women of the 30-60 ages have been successfully treated. The age is not the most important factor to determine who can be treated with Titan. It is the quality of the skin, and the degree of skin laxity that are the most important when assessing the candidacy for a Titan laser lift.Realistic expectations are important to maintain. People with loose skin and subtle jowls and neck laxity respond the best to the Titan laser lift. Patients with extreme laxity or more demanding expectaions are still better served by traditional means of plastic surgery and facelifting. Patients who have a great deal of fatty tissue can not expect to have the skin tighten in the neck or the back of the arms.
Improvements is the stomach area are also very exciting but must be tempered with the realization that stretch marks do not go away with this laser or any other one for that matter.
How many treatments will I need with the Titan Laser procedure?
One to three cosmetic treatments has produced very wonderful results for many patients. Dr. Brown and his medical laser technicians (licensed aestheticians) will advise you on the number and frequency of treatments recommended for optimal results.
What happens after treatment with the Titan Laser procedure?Any side effects with the Titan Laser procedure?
Immediately following the cosmetic treatment, you may notice some redness and mild swelling in treated area. Both should dissipate within a few hours. Please visit the office for complete information on the benefits and risks of treatment.
When will the results with the Titan Laser procedure be noticeable?
Some cosmetic patients with minimal degrees of laxity in the face and neck will see results immediately. However, for most cosmetic patients with more laxity, the results are gradual. Skin and dermal growth, including collagen, take time so a person can expect to see improvements over a three to six month period as new collagen is formed and the skin tightens. This time frame, for some is too long but for most of the educated and informed patients is well tolerated. There is no skin loss or peeling so it does not seem like a treatment was done. For some this is best, while for others who want to see and fell like they had something done, it is not best. To see and feel a change, the Fraxel will yield more of an immediate visible change.
What do treatments feel like with the Titan Laser procedure?
The Titan procedure is uncomfortable and it is recommended that a person take Tylenol prior to the procedure. With each Titan pulse, you will feel a brief heating sensation. The Titan's laser light is adjustable and during the first few pulses of light, the laser is adjusted to an energy level that is well tolerated. Some people do not require any premedication and tolerate the laser at its highest settings.
Has the Titan Laser procedure been tested and approved?
The Titan has been carefully studied in clinics around the world. It is cleared for the treatment of wrinkles in Europe and for general dermatologic use in Canada. In the US, it is cleared for topical heating to increase local tissue temperatures and circulation. An additional 510(k) clearance is pending in the US for the treatment of wrinkles.
