Protruding Ear Correction (Otoplasty)

The surgical correction for protruding ears, otoplasty, is a rewarding operation for the plastic surgeon and typically the patients are very pleased. It is well tolerated and aside from wearing a headband for a few weeks, it not too problematic. This surgery (otoplasty) when performed on a child should be delayed until the child is at least seven years of age. It is at this age that the ear had developed to a significant percentage of the adult size.
