Philosophy of Skin Care

Cosmetic Plastic Surgery and Rejuvenating Skin Care for Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, & Washington DC

One of the best approaches to improving your appearance is by having beautiful skin. It appears firm and smooth, with an even skin tone and glowing color. As a child, your skin was supple, soft, and resilient. It appeared to glow from within. A child's skin is usually free from medical problems and it functions normally. We are born with this kind of healthy skin, but with time and life's passage, we damage our skin.

As we mature, our skin changes. It may become saggy and wrinkled with an uneven color. The skin's deeper structures begin to breakdown, the elasticity begins to diminish, cell turnover slows down and the blood flow (circulation) that nourishes the skin also diminishes. This damage is intensified by unprotected sun exposure, environmental factors, and bad habits like smoking. These types of injuries can result in dry, blotchy skin with a variety of undesirable appearances.

Maximal skin health is achieved by the use of topical products that work in concert with the body to regulate the skin's cellular functions and to improve circulation. These actions allow the skin to constantly rejuvenate itself, repair its damage, and to retain its natural moisture and function. This type of healthy skin looks better, and tolerates cosmetic procedures better.

With medical supervision and counseling, using specially developed products, your skin is individually assessed and cared for. Our goal is to treat your skin from the outside, and the inside, using the best approaches possible to rejuvenate your skin. The idea is to work on all the layers of your skin to smooth out the roughness and to correct the damage. Since the damage has occurred at all levels of your skin, we will treat all layers. We want to address everything we can. We want to treat things like wrinkles, uneven skin tone, hyperpigmentation, excessive facial hair and blood vessels. We want to treat below the surface of the skin, to rejuvenate the cellular level by stimulating cell turnover, improving circulation and to help restore your skin's natural moisture.

It all starts with the selection of a physician trained in the art and science of skin care. Based on your skin type and condition, as well as your lifestyle and goals, a treatment plan suited to your individual needs will be created, prescribed and altered as needed to assure that progress continues to be made. Your skin is rejuvenated under the close eye of Dr. Brown and his aestheticians.

This customized service, which may also include ancillary treatments like microdermabrasion, chemical peels, and/or laser treatments. This will depend on your skin's condition and your commitment for improvement. The steps and level of involvement of your program are tailored to your goals. These steps usually involve periods of preparation, correction, stimulation, control and always, protection.

Preparing the skin usually involves cleansing and toning of the skin, thereby making it more receptive to the corrective step. The correction period may take the longest amount of time and serves to help remove the years of damage to your skin. The correction phase aides in repairing the surface of the skin, and also tries to correct for an uneven skin tone and hyperpigmentation.

While the preparation and correction are going on, the skin is also being stimulated to repair itself within the deeper layers. We use products that have been scientifically developed to restore the important structures of collagen and elastin in the skin. Once achieving the results, we try and control the skin's appearance for long-term rejuvenation effects.

Protection, which should always be incorporated into any skin care program, should evolve around protecting the skin against the damaging rays of the sun. These harmful UVA and UVB rays increase the likelihood of photoaging and skin cancers.

Our skin care programs are second to none. We are committed to providing you with the state of the art care and medically controlled products.
