Insurance and Tummy Tuck Surgery

Liposuction and Tummy Tuck Cosmetic Plastic Surgery for Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, & Washington DC

Insurance carriers generally will not cover elective, plastic surgery or any complications that may occur.  A tummy tuck is usually considered an elective surgery, unless there is extreme spreading of the anterior muscles or a hernia.  It is best to check with your own insurance carrier regarding the availability and amount of coverage.

Communicating with your insurance company, at the very beginning, is extremely important.  You should discuss your insurance concerns with Dr. Michael J. Brown.  In some cases, Dr. Brown may be able to write a letter to your insurance carrier, if exceptions may apply to your case.

Dr. Brown’s office does not participate with insurance and all fees are due in advance by you.  If insurance does cover the procedure, it may only cover portions of the surgery and will reimburse you afterwards.  As with any aesthetic surgery, this could affect future insurance coverage and premiums may increase.

Financial Responsibility for Tummy Tuck Surgery

The cost of tummy tuck surgery involves several charges for the services provided.  The total includes fees charged by Dr. Brown, the cost of tummy tuck surgical supplies, anesthesia, laboratory tests, and possible outpatient hospital charges, depending on where the tummy tuck surgery is performed.  Additional costs may occur should complications develop from the surgery. Secondary surgery or hospital day-surgery charges involved with revision tummy tuck surgery would also be your responsibility.
